A Powerful, True Prisoner of War Opera
Glory Denied is an opera that tells the true story of America’s longest-held prisoner of war - Colonel Jim Thompson - who endures a nine-year ordeal in the jungle of southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. Through it all, he finds the strength to survive in memories of his family. Upon Jim’s liberation, however, he finds that his wife has begun a new relationship with another man, she has told their children that their father is dead, and his country is forever changed.
This opera is co-produced by Chamber Orchestra of the Springs, Opera Theatre of the Rockies, Art Song Colorado, and the Air Force Academy.
RUN TIME: 1 hour, 25 minutes (including intermission)
“This is no fictional dialogue…but the real, powerful emotional struggles of two flesh-and-blood human beings caught up in a drama neither one of them wanted or created…a terrifically powerful work…” Fanfare Magazine
